One of the four things below is yours to switch. Off means the tag is never loaded — nothing is requested from the company behind it, so there is nothing for it to see and no cookie for it to set. The other three run for everyone, and each one is listed with what does stop it rather than with a switch that does not. You can change your answer whenever you like from the Privacy choices link in the footer.

Measurement

Always on

Google Analytics, plus Vercel's cookieless page counts: how many people reached the site, where they came from, and how many finished a booking. This one runs either way. The cookie policy explains how to stop it in your browser.

Advertising

Always on

The Meta pixel for Facebook and Instagram. It reports back that an ad led to a booking, and it lets an advert for STEPFIT be shown to you on other sites afterwards. This one runs either way, and there is no switch here for it — the cookie policy explains what does stop it in your browser.

Visitor identification

Always on

retention.com matches signals from your visit against a database built from other sites, and where it finds a match it can tell us a named person was here — even if you never typed anything. This one runs for everyone and there is no switch here for it. What we receive is kept and marked as coming from identification, and may be used for marketing email — nothing has been sent yet, and anything sent carries a one-click unsubscribe link.

Opt out of retention.com on every site that uses it — app.retention.com/optout

Microsoft Clarity replays how a page was used — where the pointer moved, what was clicked, how far you scrolled. It is kept off the waiver page, the careers form and the contact form, and that exclusion is written into this site’s own code rather than set in Microsoft’s dashboard.

Stepfit vs Barry's

Barry's is treadmill intervals and strength work in a dark, loud room. Stepfit is choreography on a platform in a dark, loud room. The room is the part that matches.

Both run in Tampa

Barry's Tampa is at 1514 W Swann Ave, in Hyde Park.

Side by side

The class

Stepfit

55 minutes of continuous step choreography on a platform.

Barry's

50 minutes split between treadmill intervals and strength work on the floor.

Where the cardio comes from

Stepfit

The platform. You are climbing for most of the class.

Barry's

The treadmill — walking, jogging, running, inclines and speed pushes.

Strength work

Stepfit

Bodyweight against the platform. Glutes, legs and core.

Barry's

Free weights, bands, medicine balls and dumbbells on the floor rounds.

The room

Stepfit

Casa 21 on W Waters Ave — a Latin dance club, taken over before it opens for the night.

Barry's

The Red Room, their own studio, red-lit and loud.

What you follow

Stepfit

Choreography and a beat. The count tells you what comes next.

Barry's

Your coach's intervals, and your own pace on the tread.

Price

Stepfit

$19.95 a class. No membership, no contract.

Barry's

Varies — check with the Tampa studio.

Which one you want

Go to Barry's if you want to run and lift. A lot of people love the treadmill, and they should keep going. Come to STEPFIT if the treadmill is the exact reason you stopped — this is still a cardio class, you are just stepping up and down for most of 55 minutes instead of running.

The short version

Two hard classes with the same taste in rooms and music, built on different machines. One is a treadmill. Ours is a platform, and we supply it.
